Andy Park has revealed the Art of Captain Marvel cover pays homage to Kelly Sue DeConnick’s comic book run.

It’s well-known that Brie Larson’s first Captain Marvel film was heavily inspired by Kelly Sue DeConnick’s run in the comics right down to her costume. With another movie on the way, it’s expected that the sequel will continue to pull from what Sue DeConnick has done over the years in Marvel comics.

On Instagram, Marvel Studios’ Andy Park has revealed that the cover for the Art of Captain Marvel book is inspired by the cover drawn by Jamie McKelvie for Sue DeConnick’s Captain Marvel #9 from 2013. You can see the comparison of the two covers and what Park had to say about it below:

“I’m not sure if I ever posted this but if you remember the cover I did to the “Art of Captain Marvel” book showcasing the concept art our team did for the movie, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that this pose was a homage to the awesome @mckelvie who along with @kellysued helped define Captain Marvel for this generation.”
