Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has worked with many actors in the MCU since the franchise kicked off in 2008 with Iron Man. He has had the opportunity to work with performers that have been nominated and/or won Academy Awards, so he’s certainly has a lot of experience with the many individuals that have taken part in the franchise onscreen for over 15 years. Now, he’s sending high praise towards one of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Dave Bautista.
During the global virtual press junket for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Kevin Feige reflected on working with Dave Bautista for over a decade, praising the actor’s growth in his craft both within the MCU and outside of it. “And we’re talking about moments that tear us up. When he [Bautista] watches. I’m not going to give anything away. But he gives an expression at the end of the movie,” Feige acknowledged. ” And I literally am like, not only is Drax one of the best characters in the MCU. Written by James. But I think Dave Bautista has become one of the best actors that we’ve ever gotten to work. And I just wanted to give that shout out.”
Before he ventured into acting in 2006, Dave Bautista was most recognized for his career as a professional wrestler in the WWE. Initially, his acting roles emphasized his strong physical presence onscreen more than anything else. However, it wasn’t until James Gunn and Kevin Feige saw potential in him to take part in Marvel Studios’ biggest gamble at the time: Guardians of the Galaxy. The film featured Bautista as Drax the Destroyer – a role that showcased both action and comedy.
Since then, Dave Bautista’s star has been on the rise thanks to his role – however, he’s also expressed a desire to move on from Drax the Destroyer, given that he feels in some ways it has limited him as an actor. In the years since he made his MCU debut, Bautista has went on to diversify his filmography and expand his craft, with critics widely considering him to be the best wrestler-turned-actor, besting the likes of Dwayne Johnson and John Cena thanks to his acclaimed turns in non-MCU films.
What to expect from the third Guardians movie
Written and directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Elizabeth Debicki, Sean Gunn, Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 synopsis reads as follows: “Our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere, but it isn’t long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket’s turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life – a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.”
