After the cancellation of Kevin Feige’s Star Wars project, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy came out to say that his film not only was never in production, but was never discussed. However, a new report suggests that this isn’t exactly true.
The report in question comes from Puck’s Matt Belloni, who served as the former editor for The Hollywood Reporter and now runs the newsletter “What I’m Hearing.” In the most recent edition of his newsletter, Belloni said that the film was not only in development, but that Kathleen Kennedy was receiving active updates about the film’s progress. These updates include Michael Waldron, who wrote Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, signing on to write the script, which he has publicly stated to be working on multiple times.
The Puck writer also counters the claim that the Star Wars film was announced solely by the press or fandom sites, pointing out that the project was announced by former Disney Chairman Alan Horn before his departure to Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022. At the time, Horn said that the collaboration “just made sense.” However, according to Belloni, Kathleen Kennedy was less excited about the prospect of Kevin Feige co-producing a film, saying that she was “never enthusiastic” about the Marvel Studios head crossing into Lucasfilm.
Despite this news, its unclear if Kevin Feige’s Star Wars film will ever come to light, or if the denial by Kathleen Kennedy means the film is scrapped entirely. Lucasfilm announced three new movies during the recent Star Wars Celebration in the United Kingdom.
The future of Star Wars looks brighter than ever
The announcement of these three new Star Wars movies marks an exciting time for fans of the franchise. With each movie being directed by a different filmmaker, there is sure to be a unique perspective and style brought to each project.
The focus on new characters and storylines within the Star Wars universe is also promising. While the original trilogy will always hold a special place in the hearts of fans, it’s important to keep the franchise evolving and exploring new avenues. The new Jedi order, as promised in the third movie, could provide an interesting look at the future of the Star Wars universe and the continued use and understanding of The Force.
