Kevin Feige touched on the rumors that Spider-Man 3 will feature a number of returning characters including different versions of the Wall-Crawler.
The internet has been ablaze over the last few months with rumors and reports that Spider-Man 3 will bring back the previous Spider-Men played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to stand alongside Tom Holland’s Web-Slinger in the sequel. But when speaking to ComicBook.com, Kevin Feige explained that some of the speculation about the future of Marvel Cinematic Universe has been “shockingly close.”
“I’ve read some things. I’m not sure I’ve read all things. The fun thing about online speculation when it comes to our stuff is how sometimes it couldn’t be more off the mark and sometimes it’s shockingly close, and that’s held true for the last few years. But saying which is which would take all the fun out of everything.”
The Marvel Studios chief also pointed out that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a clue towards future films like Spider-Man 3, before briefly touching on his previous experience working on Sony’s trilogy several years ago with director Sam Raimi. Kevin Feige is clearly an expert at dodging around the specifics of a question, since he didn’t directly mention any particular rumor, hero or villain. But he definitely seems to be implying that fans will see some returning characters in the third film.
“That’s the biggest clue of where the Multiverse of Madness is taking us and how we’re exploring that. It’s surreal to me that we’re talking about a Spider-Man 3. I worked on a movie called Spider-Man 3 many years ago directed by Mr. Sam Raimi. So this clearly, the shorthand of calling it Spider-Man 3 now, it’s fine. We call it Homecoming 3.”
