After confirming the existence of Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League, Kevin Smith offered up some new details regarding the state of what fans of the director have dubbed the “Snyder Cut.”
Speaking with CinemaBlend, Kevin Smith spilled what he knows regarding Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League and revealed the unfinished state of the Snyder Cut:
“I’ve not seen it firsthand. I’ve spoken now to enough people at various levels in that production. There IS a Snyder cut. For sure. That’s not a mythical beast. It exists. Now, it’s not a finished movie by any stretch of the imagination. There were things that went away from the story that they shot that didn’t wind up going into (visual) effects or anything like that.”
Kevin Smith went on to detail the unfinished state of Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League, explaining that the Snyder Cut was nothing more than an early cut of the film used by the studio to “fill in the blanks”:
“So I would assume, based on what I’ve been told, that large sections of that Snyder Cut are, you know, pre-viz (with) a lot of green screen. We’re not talking a finished movie…the one I’ve heard everyone speak of was never a finished film. It was a movie that people in production could watch and fill in the blanks. It was certainly not meant for mass consumption.”

Earlier this year, Zack Snyder himself confirmed the Snyder Cut of Justice League exists when he revealed new details about his original plans for the future of the DCEU including that Justice League was originally going to introduce Darkseid.
Zack Snyder also confirmed his original 5 film-arc for the DCEU was going to feature Young Darkseid vs Ares and the other Greek Gods in the first invasion of Earth, the murder of Lois Lane as well as half of the Justice League, and Darkseid taking control of the heartbroken Superman with the Anti-Life Equation.
Back in 2017, Zack Snyder stepped down from directing Justice League after his daughter died by suicide, turning over directorial duties to Joss Whedon. The former Avengers director was said to be directing additional photography as well as overseeing the post-production process in an effort to maintain Zack Snyder’s original vision. However, what was seen in the film’s marketing differed vastly from what released in theaters. The outcome resulted in what some insiders described as a Frankenstein between the two directors and the so-called “Snyder Cut” remains to be seen to this day. But Zack Snyder continues to reveal new information about his cut of Justice League to this day. The latest reveal from Zack Snyder detailed how the original ending of Justice League positioned Darkseid for future films.
Justice League stars Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, Ezra Miller as Barry Allen/The Flash, Ray Fisher as Victor Stone/Cyborg, Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Ciaran Hinds as Steppenwolf, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Amber Heard as Mera, Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko and Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. Here’s the official synopsis for Zack Snyder’s Justice League:
“Fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.”
Justice League is now available on Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital HD. The DCEU continues with next with Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020. A standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is also set to hit theaters October 4, 2019.
