Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins recently teased what causes Kristen Wiig to turn into the villainous Cheetah.

Some of the biggest questions heading into Wonder Woman 1984 revolve around Cheetah, who will be played by Kristen Wiig. This was a surprising casting choice for one of Wonder Woman’s greatest enemies and the first trailer has teased that we will get to know Wiig’s Barbara Minerva before she becomes Cheetah.

While there have been some leaks, Kristen Wiig’s final transformation as Cheetah remains under-wraps. In Empire Magazine’s upcoming June issue, Wonder Woman 1984 director Patty Jenkins teased what makes Wiig’s Barbara go bad and become Cheetah in the film:

“What makes Barbara turn into Cheetah is feeling like she’s never been as good as someone like Diana. She reminds me of certain people I’ve known who have such low self-confidence, that they’re always holding themselves back. Then once they start to embrace change, out comes this ugly resentment built up over all those years.

Patty Jenkins added how the friendship between Kristen Wiig’s Barbara and Diana in the film leads to conflict:

“This real misunderstanding at its core.”

Are you excited to see Kirsten Wiig’s Cheetah in action? When do you think we will get the first look at her transformation? Sound-off in the comments section below!

Full details on the plot are being kept under wraps, but the film is said to follow Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince as she comes into conflict with a formidable new adversary named Cheetah and businessman Maxwell Lord.

Directed by Patty Jenkins from a script she co-wrote with David Callaham and a treatment she developed with Geoff Johns, Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Kristen Wiig, Pedro Pascal, Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Connie Nielson, and Robin Wright.

Wonder Woman 1984 is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on August 14, 2020.
