Arrowverse Boss Reveals Cut ‘Krypton’ Cameo Details From Crossover

Arrowverse boss Marc Guggenheim has revealed new details about the cut Krypton cameo from the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event.

One of the biggest allures of the Arrowverse crossover event Crisis On Infinite Earths was that it featured numerous cameos from different iterations of our favorite characters from all across the DC Comcis ecosystem. In fact, it featured numerous live-action Superman actors, including Brandon Routh, Tom Welling and Tyer Hoechlin. And if things had gone the way Arrowverse head Marc Guggenheim wanted, we also would have seen Superman’s grandfather in the crossover.

Originally, the Arrowverse crossover was going to include Seg-El from the Syfy DC Comics drama Krypton. In the DC series, Seg-El is trying to save his beloved world of Krypton from perishing. He also carries the weight of being Superman’s grandfather, though the Krypton series is set 200 years before Kal-El takes flight.

Unfortunately, Krypton was axed by Syfy, which didn’t allow for the Arrowverse crossover to showcase the resident of the iconic planet, played by British actor Cameron Cuffe. In a recent interview with the Fake Nerd podcast, Arrowverse head Marc Guggenheim discussed what the Krypton cameo would have entailed.

“We were actually going to have Cameron play a Kryptonian elder, so we could play a little fast and loose with continuity if we had to…When Alura was basically grabbing Kal-El and Lois on Argo, to take them to the ship, we were going to have this Kryptonian elder essentially hologram in with important information about the destruction of the multiverse. So that stuff is actually written!

With Krypton now canceled, it’s disappointing that we didn’t get a final good look at Cameron Cuffe’s Seg-El. It also would have been breathtaking to have seen Seg-El interact with his grandson Kal-El, highlighting how the multiverse could be destroyed. Despite never having gotten to see that scene, it’s great to know that it was actually written and the intention was set.
