Is Hal Jordan in trouble in the DC Universe? An update seemingly reveals a short contract is in store for Kyle Chandler if he’s cast as the Green Lantern.

Today’s talk of the town is that Kyle Chandler is the current frontrunner to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming Lanterns series. This comes off weeks of speculation that James Gunn and Peter Safran were looking for big names to play the iconic Green Lantern, with the previous offer having been extended to Josh Brolin, and names like Matthew McConaughey and Ewan McGregor being rumored to fill out the rest of the shortlist.

However, the list may not be the only thing that’s short for Hal Jordan. A recent Twitter post by Borys Kit at The Hollywood Reporter sheds new insight on the contract Kyle Chandler was reportedly offered to join the DC Universe. While Chandler would be signing on to the leading role in Lanterns, the contract does not include any provisions pertaining to contractual obligations for the Green Lantern to appear in movies.

What This Contract Tells Fans About Hal Jordan

The preeminent theory making its rounds online is that this means Hal Jordan would be killed off in the first season of Lanterns. However, it should be noted that the report never specified that Kyle Chandler is only offered the role of Green Lantern for a single season. Only that his contract solely mentioned television and streaming obligations, with no movie component in the current draft.

Another likely explanation could be that the DC Universe isn’t giving actors sweeping contracts as the MCU does for its actors. If true, it would make sense Kyle Chandler’s contract for Hal Jordan only refers to television, as it’s only meant for the production of Lanterns. However, this theory doesn’t disprove the idea that the Green Lantern could be prepped to die in the series, be it in the first season or any subsequent one.
