The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker novelization has finally revealed the final words Kylo Ren said to Rey.
The Skywalker saga came to a ceremonious end with the release of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. One of the biggest criticisms from the film’s third act pertained to the character of Kylo Ren, who had no dialogue to say other than “Ow” in the film’s finale. Many also found it odd that Kylo Ren, now redeemed at the behest of his father, had nothing to say to Rey, despite reviving her back to life.
While that scene may have fallen flat on the screen, the novelization for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker explicitly showcases what Kylo Ren had to say to Rey when he was reviving her. These final words come after Kylo Ren has kissed Rey:
“A voice came to her through the Force, clear and strong. I will always be with you, Ben said. She smiled. Let the truth of it wash over her. ‘No one’s ever really gone,’ she whispered.”
Kylo Ren’s final words to Rey are exceptionally emotional, highlighting the love and passion they both share for one another. These final words seem to be a fitting end to Kylo Ren, who was corrupted at a very early age and died sacrificing the woman he loved.
The most revealing part of this passage from The Rise of Skywalker novelization is what Rey has to say to Kylo Ren. “No one’s ever really gone” is what Luke Skywalker told Rey, so it’s quite fitting for her to echo it back to Kylo Ren. This brief line also implies that Kylo Ren could potentially return as a force ghost within the Star Wars universe, though he wasn’t seen alongside Luke and Leia in the film’s final scene.
