Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn won’t be the one you expect. The singer reveals her character’s new identity in Joker: Folie à Deux.
It’s clear that Joker: Folie à Deux is taking a lot of liberties with the story of Harley Quinn. Lady Gaga’s take on the character is certain to be one fans have never seen before. However, it seems the character will even have a new identity. According to Lady Gaga, the character will be known as “Lee” throughout the film.
“You know, it was a really beautiful experience,” Lady Gaga explained in a recent interview with E! News. “I had the most amazing creative time and I always feel so lucky when I get to be creative every day, all day long. This movie has music in it, incredible actors in it, and a wonderful director [in] Todd Phillips.”
“I just had a brilliant time. My version of Harley Quinn is ‘Lee’. In a lot of ways, I think this is going to be a very different Lee for people and I’m excited for them to see the story we wanted to tell.”
It seems as though “Lee” will be the name that Lady Gaga’s character will use before transforming into Harley Quinn. It certain makes sense to change her originally name, not just to emphasize it’s a new take on the character in Joker: Folie à Deux, but because “Harleen Quinzel” is quite the mouthful to say multiple times in a film!
Lady Gaga’s Big Role In Joker 2
Lady Gaga is a massive part of Joker: Folie à Deux. Literally, in this sense, given reports put her payday at a massive $12 million. With the film sporting around a $200 million budget, that’s more than 5% of the whole movie! Though given she’ll be playing Harley Quinn in a film rich with music, it makes sense that the singer would demand a large check.
Despite the director of Joker: Folie à Deux insisting the film is not a musical, the project is set to feature at least 15 songs. This gives Lady Gaga plenty of room to flex her singing chops as Harley Quinn. Given DC’s recent string of failures at the box office, it’s yet to be seen if this expensive gamble will pay off in the long run.
