Disney announced a brand new Star Wars Disney Plus series revolving around Lando Calrissian at the end of 2020. While fans have been waiting to see if Donald Glover would be attached to the series, it seems as though Justin Simien has been waiting for any news on the show he’s running.
The last fans heard of Lando was back in April when Donald Glover teased his return as Calrissian, as long as it was done in the right way. Beyond that, almost nothing has been said about the Disney Plus series since it was announced. According to showrunner Justin Simien, he also hasn’t heard anything about the Star Wars series since it was announced in 2020:
“I certainly poured my heart and spent a lot of time working with them to put together a really great show,” Simien told The Direct. “It feels like everybody loves it. And, you know, I was told we had to put a pause on it because of scheduling, and the next update I got [was in 2020], some years ago. So I don’t know, I have no idea what’s going on with it.”
The scheduling conflict Justin Simien is likely referring to likely involves Donald Glover, given his full card as a writer, actor, and musician. However, nearly 3 years of radio silence isn’t great news for the Disney Plus series. It’s unclear if this means Disney plans to quietly shelve the Lando Calrissian-focused series, or if they do truly plan to revive the show in this new era of Star Wars.

The announcement of these three new Star Wars movies marks an exciting time for fans of the franchise. With each movie being directed by a different filmmaker, there is sure to be a unique perspective and style brought to each project.
