Is Kelly MacDonald playing the Star Sapphire? A new rumor suggests the actress is being eyed to play Hal Jordan’s love interest in Lanterns.
News about Lanterns has been coming hard and fast in recent weeks. From Kyle Chandler being cast as Hal Jordan, to Aaron Pierre being chosen for the role of John Stewart. Yet a new rumor suggests that yet another actress is being added to the cast: Kelly MacDonald. While details about her role are sparse, what is being reported have many wondering if she could be playing Carol Ferris, aka the Star Sapphire, in the DC Universe.
The rumor, as reported by Nexus Point News, states that Kelly MacDonald has been offered the role of one of two female leads in the series. Her character is described as the town’s sheriff and love interest of Hal Jordan. While her job is a far cry to that of the Star Sapphire, Carol Ferris has been the most prominent character to play the role of Hal’s partner in the DC Universe.
Who is Carol Ferris, The Star Sapphire?
In the comics, Carol Ferris is the boss and owner of Ferris Aircraft. She is both the love interest and manager of Hal Jordan, who serves as a pilot for the company. She gained the moniker of Star Sapphire after being chosen to be the queen of a race called the Zamarons. When she refused, she was brainwashed into becoming a villain using the Star Sapphire Gem, before eventually becoming a member of their Lantern Corp and a full-fledged hero.
Carol Ferris’ odd comic origins could explain why the description for Kelly MacDonald’s character in Lanterns seems so odd. It’s possible that they changed to be being a sheriff to better align with the series’ focus on detective work. And if the show was truly going to focus on a mystery, who better for the role of the culprit than the original mind-controlled Star Sapphire?
