The biggest threat for the DC Universe may have already been revealed! A recent rumor suggests Lanterns may be setting up the first big arc for the reboot.

Ever since James Gunn announced the initial slate for his reboot of the DC Universe, fans have been speculating what all of the announced projects may be building up to. After all, what’s the point of a connected universe without a massive crossover movie? While very few details about this potential plan have found their way onto the internet, speculation has begun to mount that Lanterns will play a key role in setting up the first “big bad” the Justice League will face.

Following the recent casting of Garret Dillahunt as a conspiracy theorist in Lanterns, the internet immediately began to consider which hidden evils in the DC Universe may tie into his paranoia. One popular idea was that his character will end up being connected to The Centre, a popular villain from DC’s The New Frontier comic line. While there wasn’t much stock put into this rumor at first, a seeming endorsement from reliable insider DanielRPK has left fans wondering if they had already discovered the reboot’s first big bad.

Who Is The Centre In The DC Universe?

The Centre is best known in the DC Universe as Dinosaur Island, a refuge for prehistoric life on Earth following the mass extinction event that killed the dinosaurs. The island is also a sentient being that was born in the core of a primordial Earth. The being simply remained an observer and bastion of life for millennia. That is, until The Centre saw the detonation of the first hydrogen bomb. Deciding to wipe the humans off the face of the Earth, the being sent a legion of mutated dinosaurs across the Earth to scavenge for resources and face-off against the Justice League.

The story of The Centre lines up with a lot of details fans know about James Gunn and the DC Universe reboot. An early rumor suggested that Gunn’s Superman reboot would be based off Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. While this doesn’t line up with what fans know about that film, the focus on nuclear armaments does align with The Centre’s story in The New Frontier, potentially meaning that rumor could have been referring to a future Justice League film.
