The Lanterns is really getting grounded! Set photos from the upcoming Green Lantern series bring the DC Universe into the world of rural Americana.
Fans have been keeping a close eye on the net for any set photos from the production of Lanterns. While not the most eye-catching project coming to the DC Universe, it has piqued the interest of many fans. Not only since it seems to be the first project in over a decade to give the Green Lantern Corps any respect in an official capacity, but because it’s taking the otherwise cosmic characters and bringing them into the extremely grounded setting of rural America.
There were, of course, plenty of fears that the series would lack the panache often associated with the Green Lantern series, especially when it comes to their construct. However, a lesser but still valid concern is that Lanterns would simply use small-town America as window dressing, leaning into tired tropes instead of making the heartland a living, breathing part of the DC Universe.
Set Photos Reveal First Look At Lanterns
These fears have seemingly been dissuaded in the first batch of unofficial set photos from the production of Lanterns. While the duo isn’t exactly going to a Fleet Farm during their journey, there are enough recognizable staples from the midwest that shows those working on the series are committed to representing the area well. Y’know, until it gets destroyed by the inevitable clash between the Green Lantern Corps’ strongest members and whatever villain they face.

The only truly important thing to note from these set photos is that the sheriff’s office reveals that Lanterns takes place in Sheridan County. If the DC Universe shares the same districting maps as reality, that means the Green Lantern series will be taking place in Wyoming. Certainly it’s not the most exciting piece of news, but it’s the most fans have gotten since production on the project ramped up a few weeks back.
