Lars Eidinger is already feeling the pressure! The Man of Tomorrow star breaks his silence on joining the DC Universe as the villainous Brainiac.

Perhaps the biggest piece of casting news to come out of the DC Universe in this past year has been the news that Lars Eidinger will be playing Brainiac in Man of Tomorrow. However, due to the actor being German, there haven’t been too many interviews in English discussing what it was like for him to land the highly coveted role.

Luckily, the German outlet TipBerlin brought up Brainiac during a recent interview with Lars Eidinger. The actor reveals that, with Man of Tomorrow kicking off production in a few weeks, he’s deep into physical training for the part. While he does feel immense pressure in joining the DC Universe, he also appreciates the chance to leave his mark on the iconic character.

“James Gunn wrote to me that he is happy to design the role together with me. I was happy about this formulation, because it means that I should not only be a vicarious agent, but can contribute. In addition, I train four times a week with a personal trainer to be fit, more lean and muscular, as the studio requires.”

“I already feel the pressure…[but] I was happy about this formulation, because it means that I should not only be a vicarious agent, but can contribute. The other day I flew to America again for a three-hour conversation and an equally long mask test to exchange ideas.”‘

Brainiac’s Role In Man Of Tomorrow

While fans already knew that Brainiac would be the main villain in Man of Tomorrow, this interview with Lars Eidinger does reveal some interesting details about his character. Namely, that he does need to work out for the DC Universe role, suggesting that he’ll be going for a more traditional, painted green look than the cybernetic husk that has been common in recent iterations of Brainiac.

It is also interesting that Lars Eidinger is getting input into how Brainiac is portrayed in Man of Tomorrow. Many fans assumed that the character sat at the core of James Gunn’s plans for the DC Universe, but the apparent flexibility given to the actor suggests that he may play a smaller role than most people thought.

Man of Tomorrow flies into theaters July 9th, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
