Longtime X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner recently revealed that she has not seen the franchise’s latest installment Dark Phoenix.

With the release of Dark Phoenix, many X-Men fans have begun to reminisce on 20th Century Fox’s X-Men films. The original X-Men movie has been hailed as the starting point for the superhero genre with the film proving that comics were a viable option for movies. The X-Men franchise has spanned almost twenty years as the original X-Men movie hit theaters in 2000.

One person who has been heavily involved with the X-Men franchise is producer Lauren Shuler Donner. Shuler Donner worked closely on all of the X-Men films up to X-Men: Days of Future Past. She also led the X-Men creative team and worked to create a series that includes some great comic book movies and has even influenced other franchises.

With her former protege Kevin Feige now having the film rights to the X-Men, many were curious what Lauren Shuler Donner has to say about the recently-released Dark Phoenix. During a recent intervie for the final season of FX’s X-Men series Legion, Shuler Donner  was asked about Dark Phoenix and if she thought it was better than her own Dark Phoenix adaptation X-Men: The Last Stand. Here’s what she told Slashfilm:

“I have to be honest with you, I have not seen it yet,I’m sure I will be, but I have not seen it.”

Shuler Donner  was also asked if she will continue to produce X-Men movies now that the characters belong to Marvel Studios.

“X-Men now belongs to Disney and it’s in their capable hands,” she said. “That’s really up to Kevin Feige. He started out with me. I trust him. I think whatever he does, it won’t be right away. I think he’s already dealing with the plan that he set in motion for the other Marvel universe. But, I will not be involved most probably. I’ll be friend of the court.”

With Lauren Shuler Donner publicly endorsing Kevin Feige, it seems that the student has become the master. While the Fox X-Men era was a great period for comic book movies it seems that everyone involved with those films is ready to move on. What did you think of the Dark Phoenix? Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.

This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.

Dark Phoenix is now playing in theaters everywhere.
