Is Laurence Fishburne the perfect actor to lead the X-Men reboot? The beloved actor reveals his hopes to play another role in the MCU.
The MCU is gearing up for yet another major status quo change. After a rather disappointing go at the Multiverse Saga, the franchise is shifting its focus to the Mutant Saga- set to kick off with a reboot of the X-Men. This has caused the rumor mill to go ballistic with reports and speculation about who may play who in the new film, seeming to discard the current projects coming down the pipeline entirely.
Yet it seems not everyone is ready to give up on the MCU. Laurence Fishburne recently sat down to speak with ComicBook.com about the current state of Marvel and the X-Men reboot. During the chat, the actor reveals that he’ll always be in the franchise’s corner, and that he remains happy with the recent output from the studio.
“I am a true believer in terms of the Marvel space. Whether it’s Marvel comic books or the MCU. I was reading comic books at the age of six in New York City, and those writers and those artists were talking about things that were happening in the city that I was growing up in.”
“So, of course, there are many characters in the Marvel Universe that I related to that I wished I could have played when I was younger. But I’m very, very pleased with the way that the movies have been cast. I’m very, very pleased with the way that they have played out. I’m a huge fan of all of those movies.”
Laurence Fishburne Wants To Lead The X-Men
The actor also just isn’t a fan of the X-Men- he wants a piece of the pie! Laurence Fishburne touched on the topic of the reboot following a comment he made at New York Comic-Con about wanting to play Professor X. Fishburne reiterates his desire to take on the mantle of Charles Xavier, calling it the “most appropriate” character for him to play.
“Professor X, at the moment, is, I feel, the most appropriate character for me to play at the age that I am at this point. And for the kind of roles that I am known for. It feels like it would be fit for me. So that’s why.”
Of course, the role of Professor X is one that’s highly coveted, perhaps more than any other in the X-Men reboot. Names ranging from Giancarlo Esposito to Ralph Fiennes have been floated as potential actors to take upon the mantle. So while Laurence Fishburne would have an uphill battle to land the part, it’s certain fans would love the outcome!
