Marvel’s What If…? was created to explore the multiversal possibilities of the most popular heroes. Now it seems as though the multiverse is getting a little bigger with Laurence Fishburne confirming his return as Bill Foster in season 2, this time with one massive twist.

With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania taking the grounded franchise in a much more sci-fi direction, fans weren’t sure if they would ever see the return of Fishburne as Bill Foster, who was one of the prior film’s antagonists. This was a shame to many fans given in the comics Bill Foster took up the mantle of Goliath, which was teased in the MCU through the titular Project G.O.L.I.A.T.H. which served as a key plot point in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Luckily for fans, Fishburne confirmed in a recent interview that he would be returning to the Marvel Universe as Bill Foster in What If…?, this time taking on another mantle from the comics in Giant-Man.

Fishburne isn’t the only Ant-Man and the Wasp actor to return in a new corner of the Marvel multiverse. Hannah John-Kamen, who plays Foster’s protege Ghost in the film, has been confirmed to return in the upcoming Thunderbolts film. What If…? also seems to expanding beyond new versions of existing heroes, with the original Native American hero Kahhori set to debut in the show’s second season. It’s unclear if any of these characters will appear beyond these next appearances, but at the very least fans can enjoy the blasts from the past, no matter how short they may be.

A Multiverse of Possibilities

What If…? also features the voices of Josh Brolin, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Jeffrey Wright, Hayley Atwell and other major stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series “flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways,” according to Marvel’s official description of the series.

In addition to the second season of What If…?, Marvel is also working on two more animated series — Marvel Zombies and Spider-Man: Freshman Year. The former is a direct spin-off of What If…? episode five, which revolves around a Marvel Cinematic Universe that suffers from a zombie plague.
