First Look At Lin-Manuel Miranda In ‘Mary Poppins Returns’ Revealed

'Hamilton' creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has been spotted on the set of 'Mary Poppins Returns' starring alongside Emily Blunt.

Lin-Manuel MirandaLast year, Lin-Manuel Miranda cemented himself as one of the most promising artists on the planet. His musical Hamilton has become a cultural phenomenon that is basically impossible to get tickets to, and his contributions for Disney in films such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Moana (for which he was nominated for an Oscar) have only catapulted his stardom.

Miranda’s next project will be something special. Besides creating Hamilton, he also performed onstage in the titular role. Now, Miranda will be acting in a big Disney production for the big screen. He will star in Mary Poppins Returns alongside Emily Blunt as a lamplighter named Jack.

Recently, the first official photo of Blunt as Mary Poppins was revealed by Disney. Now, we have more stills from the set of the Rob Marshall-directed sequel featuring Blunt and now Miranda as the male lead. You can check out these photos via Twitter down below.

The first image that revealed Blunt in the iconic role made famous by Julie Andrews was practically perfect in every way. Now seeing Miranda in costume as his character is also exciting. For over a year, his style has been inseparable from Hamilton, and his hairstyle during his run as the character was a staple to his public persona.

Now that he’s moved onto doing new projects, it’s exciting to see Miranda’s presence permeate not just the Disney machine, but also the culture. It’s always great to see someone as inspiring and innovative as him be part of defining the arts for the 21st century.

The story will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Directed by Rob Marshall and starring Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Dick Van Dyke and Angela Lansbury, Mary Poppins Returns flies into theaters on December 25, 2018.
