The John Wick universe just keeps getting bigger! Lionsgate announces a new spin-off for the franchise starring Donnie Yen as the blind assassin Caine.
John Wick has officially become one of the biggest action franchises of the past decade. And with any movie’s success comes executives hoping to make spin-offs. While the series has already had quite a few, the newest to be announced from Lionsgate focuses around the character of Caine, with Donnie Yen confirmed to return to the role.
This John Wick spin-off will be penned by Umbrella Academy writer Robert Hoskins. The story is set to follow the story of Caine after John Wick: Chapter 4, continuing on from being freed from his obligations to the High Table. The project is set to film with Donnie Yen next year in Hong Kong.
The Future Of The John Wick Franchise
Donnie Yen’s Caine is far from the only character getting a spin-off. Lionsgate will also be releasing a film starring Ana De Armas titled Ballerina in June, 2025. Both of these projects follow the astounding success of The Continental, which served as a prequel to the John Wick franchise on Peacock.
It’s also been confirmed that John Wick: Chapter 5 is still in development in the midst of all these new spin-offs. With all of these projects across screens big and small, it’s clear Lionsgate has no intention of letting the franchise die anytime soon. Let’s just hope they actually live up to the legacy of the films!
