Who is Liza Colón-Zayas playing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day? The actress’ role in the MCU has been revealed in a recent rumor for the film.
Compared to recent MCU films, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has been keeping its cards surprisingly close to its chest. While fans know a few major characters to appear in the film, such as Krondon playing Tombstone and Jon Bernthal returning as the Punisher, it’s still not clear who the main villain will be. This not to mention all the questions around actors like Liza Colón-Zayas and Sadie Sink, neither of whom have had their role in the film revealed.
A rumor from DanielRPK does seek to shed light on at least one of these issues, however. The scooper reveals that Liza Colón-Zayas will actually be playing a character called Cathy in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. There isn’t any prominent character named Cathy in the Spider-Man comics, suggesting her role may be an original creation for the MCU.
Cathy’s Role In Spider-Man: Brand New Day
The rumor also suggests that Cathy will be an ally to both Spider-Man and the Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This has led many to think that Liza Colón-Zayas isn’t playing Cathy, but rather Kathryn. Specifically, Kathryn O’Brien, a CIA agent who seeks to capture the Punisher before eventually taking one the role of a love interest.
Though it’s certainly possible that both can be true: that Liza Colón-Zayas is playing an original character in the MCU and that her role may be based on Kathryn O’Brien. It wouldn’t be the first time the franchise has compressed roles. And, given how busy Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to be, it’s certain that every actor will be wearing multiple hats.
