Loki star Gugu Mbatha-Raw has teased that Marvel’s Loki “goes to other places”.
Disney Plus is set to see a huge flooding of Marvel series in the coming year, starting with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision. Shortly after those shows debut, Marvel will launch Loki, the series that sees everyone’s favorite trickster doing… something? Details on Tom Hiddleston’s Loki series have been under lock and key, though we do know that the show will focus on the 2012 Loki that escaped with the Tesseract in the Avengers: Endgame time-travel sequence. So while we do know that the Loki we’ll be following is one that hasn’t necessarily been redeemed, we don’t exactly know what he’ll but up. Set to join Hiddleston for his character’s television debut is rising star Gugu Mbatha-Raw.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw rose to prominence in late 2016 when she appeared in Black Mirror’s critically acclaimed episode San Junipero. She’s set to star in the Marvel series alongside Owen Wilson and Richard E. Grant. And while we don’t know who she’ll be playing in the Marvel series, she did tease the direction the character of Loki will be going in in a recent chat with ET Online.
“It goes to other places and you get to see that character mature in a different way. It’s going to be exciting for the fans to really see Tom and that character take the center of the story.”
Gugu Mbatha-Raw also touched upon how she’s excited that the series is being directed by only person, making it a very singular and unique voice. Kate Herron is set to helm all six episodes of the Marvel series.
“More than anything I was excited that it was being directed by one director. To be a part of a limited series [that’s] not just like episodic television, where you have a different director every week, Kate really was going to direct all of the episodes, which I’ve never had that experience on TV. I know it’s obviously been done, but personally I’ve not had the experience of doing several episodes with the same director.”
What are your thoughts on the direction that Loki will be going in? Are you excited to see Gugu Mbatha-Raw join the Marvel family? Sound off in the comments and let us know!
