The highly-anticipated season 2 of Marvel’s Disney Plus series Loki is set to premiere in just a few days. The six-episode season is shaping up to be Certified Fresh, but will it overtake its predecessor?
The first season of Loki was a landmark event for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans. Sitting at 90% for audiences and 92% for critics on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s largely hailed as the best of the Marvel Studios Disney Plus series. As early reviews for the next season emerge, the series seems to fall short of expectations with a 74% from critics:
Of course, reviews are limited at this time, with only 23 being reported as of the Tomatometer reveals. However, 74% is a large gulf between how critics reviewed the first season of Loki and now. It’s currently unclear if this score will trend up or down as the Disney Plus series reaches general audiences, but this early score may spell trouble for the God of Mischief.
Who else is attached to Loki season two?
Tom Hiddleston is spearheading the cast of Loki season two as the titular God of Mischief. The cast also includes Owen Wilson, Jonathan Majors, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Tara Strong, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Ke Huy Quan and Neil Ellice.
Eric Martin replaced Michael Waldron as the head writer of Loki for its second season. Martin and Waldron also serve as executive producers on the series alongside Tom Hiddleston, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. Benson and Moorhead directed the majority of the episodes for the upcoming season.
