We are less than two months away from the arrival of the third Marvel series on Netflix as Luke Cage, starring Mike Colter, as everyone’s favorite Power Man begins his adventures in Harlem, New York, after getting introduced in Season 1 of Jessica Jones, the 2nd series in the franchise.
Last week, Heroic Hollywood participated in the Luke Cage Press Room at San Diego Comic-Con where cast and crew of the series attended to talk about what went into making this series, bringing Luke and his world to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We spoke with Theo Rossi, who plays the character of Shades Alvarez, a character in the Luke Cage lore who in the television incarnation shares a past with Luke. In addition to him, we also talked with Marvel TV President, Jeph Loeb, who is also an executive producer on all the Marvel/Netflix shows as well as ABC’s long-running Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that is going into its 4th season.
Highlights from the roundtable interview:
-How the first season serves as a coming-of-age story for Luke as he learns to accept responsibility and embracing the hero within.
-Bringing the character of Shades to life within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
-How much of the things that happened to Luke in Season 1 of Jessica Jones, will carry over to this show.
-The challenges of playing a character who is wearing sunglasses most of the time and hiding ones eyes.
-Whether or not there was more or less pressure being the people behind the 1st modern African-American superhero series.
“After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive who attempts to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But soon he is pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.”
