Was Madame Web really THAT bad?

Madame Web‘s flop may have been worse than fans thought! A producer on the Marvel film speaks on how the movie’s failure affected her mentally.

Even months before it came out, Madame Web became the internet’s resident punching bag. Once it did hit theaters, it bombed hard at the box office, digging the collective boot into the back of the film’s head. However, it seems the ragging on the Marvel film extended past the box office results, with producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura revealing his experience with the ridicule.

“Yeah, that, that was uh, that was a heartbreaking experience in the theater,” Bonaventura told ComicBook.com. “So I’ll tell you that….[It felt] like an Axe in your head.”

It’s extremely unfortunate to hear that Lorenzo Di Bonaventura was effected so personally by Madame Web failing at the box office. While the flop certainly deserved a few jokes at its expense, no film is ever bad enough to deserve ruining someone’s mental health over. If anything, the movie should serve as a learning experience for Sony when it comes to their Marvel properties.

Madame Web Star Hopes Madame Web Gets Redemption

While producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura likely isn’t going to be stepping anywhere near a Marvel project anytime soon, it seems other members of the cast and crew look at the situation more favorably. Emma Roberts, who played Mary Parker in Madame Web, admits that there’s no way to ensure success in a business like film.

“Things work; things don’t work,” Roberts told Variety. “Everyone likes to act like they can predict if they’re going to work or they’re not. And the truth is, you can’t. Things do badly, and then they blow up later on TikTok. Things do well, but then you watch them, and you’re like, ‘This did well?'”

“There is no secret. It’s about doing something goodish and it hitting at the right time. Everything else is like a wish and a prayer. I’m not intimidated by failure, and I’m not intimidated by people having negative thoughts about something.”

It’s good to hear that Emma Roberts wasn’t effected by Madame Web flopping. At least, not as bad at Lorenzo Di Bonaventura. It’s always a shame when a blockbuster, especially one under the Marvel banner, doesn’t hit the way everyone hopes it does. Yet that doesn’t mean the film, cast, or crew can’t be redeemed in the future!
