Is Blade completely stalled?

Is Marvel to blame for the Blade delays? Mahershala Ali breaks his silence on the status of his long-awaited reboot of the iconic Daywalker.

It’s not likely that anyone needs a recap on the controversy behind the upcoming Blade reboot. Revealed nearly five years ago, the project was set to bring the beloved vampire hunter into the MCU played by Oscar winner Mahershala Ali. In a time of truly unmatched hype in the Marvel fandom, fans were convinced that this would be an easy lay-up to establish a new supernatural corner for the ever-growing franchise.

Yet half a decade on, the project has made absolutely zero progress. Blade has churned through multiple writers, directors, and now even filming locations as the reboot ramped up for production before immediately ramping down. It’s been so long since Marvel announced the film that Deadpool and Wolverine was written, produced, and released packaged with a joke about how Mahershala Ali will never be Blade before any fresh news about the movie came to light.

Is Mahershala Ali Waiting On Marvel?

Mahershala Ali recently broke his silence on the reboot during the red carpet of Jurassic World Rebirth. The status of Blade was obviously at the top of everyone’s mind, making it impossible to avoid. Surprisingly, it seems as though the actor is shifting all the blame on to Marvel, not pulling his punches in saying that he’s waiting for them.

“Call Marvel. I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready.” Ali told Variety before continuing with The Hollywood Reporter. “I would love for Blade to happen; we’ll see, I don’t know where Marvel is at right now. I’m just looking for the next great part, I really am.”

Given how troubled the script for the Blade reboot has been, it makes sense that Mahershala Ali is simply waiting on Marvel to pull the trigger. Hopefully, given how public these comments now are, this inspires the studio to get the lead out and get the film into production in the coming years. If not, we’ll have to hope Ali turns into a vampire to even get a sequel!
