Margot Robbie Re-Teaming With ‘Birds Of Prey’ Writer For New ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Film

The pair will reunite for a new film separate from the current reboot.

Margot Robbie is reuniting with Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson for a new Pirates of the Caribbean film.

Robbie is set to star in the film with Hodson penning the script for what will be a separate installment from the reboot that is currently in development. Plot details remain under wraps, however, Disney intends the project to be an original story with an all-new set of characters, rather than a spin-off of the previous five films which featured Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow.

Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin is currently developing the reboot for the studio with franchise veteran Ted Elliot writing the script. Jerry Bruckheimer, who has produced all five previous Pirates of the Caribbean films, remains attached to produce the new reboot.

As for Depp, Bruckheimer recently revealed he isn’t sure what role the actor could have in the new reboot, but it’s possible he could still return. Depp, however, was reported to be finished with the franchise back in 2018, after the fifth film in the series, Dead Men Tell No Tales, became both a critical and commercial failure, managing a total of $794.8 million worldwide, making it the lowest-grossing film in the Disney franchise.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales stars Johnny Depp, Javier Bardem, Brendon Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario, Golshifteh Farahani, Kevin McNally, Stephen Graham, Orlando Bloom, and Geoffrey Rush. Here’s the official synopsis:

Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea… including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is now available on Digital HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
