Margot Robbie Compares ‘Birds Of Prey’ & ‘Suicide Squad’ Productions

Birds of Prey Margot Robbie Harley Quinn Joker Suicide Squad

Margot Robbie revealed the differences between working on David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey.

In a recent interview with Total Film, Margot Robbie compared the differences in working on David Ayer’s Suicide Squad to Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey. The film finds Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn after she’s broken up with the Joker, defending Cassandra Cain from Black Mask. Birds of Prey star Margot Robbie explained that her time on Suicide Squad was intense, but the entire cast bonded in a unique way.

“During production, we had an amazing time. That set was super… I was going to say ‘harmonious’. It was more than that. The squad really united and bonded in a way that I don’t think anyone was even really expecting. And that was largely due to this intense rehearsal month we had beforehand. It was part of David’s process.”

Margot Robbie went on to explain that although working on Suicide Squad was fun, there was something completely different about her time on Birds of Prey. The Birds of Prey star mentioned that there was an understanding between all the women on the film that made it a special experience for everyone involved. It seems like Margot Robbie thoroughly enjoyed having more female co-stars this time around as Harley Quinn.

“No two movie sets are ever the same, and every director has a different process. But we bonded in a different way. I think that there was an immediate understanding between the women. We could all recognise that, ‘This is sick. We’re the chicks, and we get to do this shit. This is awesome.’”

Here is the official synopsis for Margot Robbie’s Birds of Prey:

“You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.”

Directed by Cathy Yan from a script penned by Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, Birds of Prey stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz, Ewan McGregor as Black Mask, and Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Ali Wong, Robert Catrini, and Michael Masini have also been cast in undisclosed roles.

Birds of Prey will be released in theaters on February 7, 2020.
