Mark Ruffalo has revealed that he doesn’t know how much longer he’ll play The Incredible Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Mark Ruffalo made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2012’s Avengers following the departure of Edward Norton. Since then the events of the 2008 film, The Incredible Hulk, has widely been ignored save for a few appearances by William Hurt’s Thunderbolt Ross. In fact, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law is the first entry in the MCU to openly acknowledge the events that went on in the film.

In late 2020, it was officially confirmed that Mark Ruffalo would be returning to the role of Hulk for She-Hulk. So far the character has appeared in two of the show’s episodes and it is currently unclear how large of a role he’ll have for the rest of the series. The actor himself, however, is just shocked that he’s still in the MCU.

While speaking to Variety, Mark Ruffalo opened up about how much longer he would play the Hulk, revealing that he was shocked he was still around:

“I don’t know! I’m always surprised that I’m still here. I mean, me and Ed Norton joke that the Hulk is like our generation’s Hamlet — we’re all going to get a shot at it. I keep waiting for the next version of it. I mean, I’ll probably do it as long as they’ll have me, if people are interested, and I can bring something that’s interesting to me to it, and interesting to the fans. But I have no idea. I mean, you know, when you look at the comics, there’s some pretty grizzled, old versions of him. I’m like, OK, the 67-year-old Hulk, that would be interesting — if all of us are still here making movies and there’s a world that allows for us to do that anymore. With what we’re living in and heading towards, the future feels more precarious than any other time. So I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself. But I hope I’m still around to do it.”

Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk was last seen in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law. Here is the synopsis for the Disney Plus series:

“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.”

Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass, and Renée Elise Goldsberry.

New episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law premiere every Thursday on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Mark Ruffalo’s future as the Hulk in the MCU and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
