Is the Hulk coming back in a big way? Fans finally have their first look at Mark Ruffalo on the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Fans have been begging for the Hulk and Spider-Man to face off on the silver screen for literal decades. But when it was confirmed that Mark Ruffalo would appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans were shockingly split. While many were excited for the characters to share the screen once more, others lamented the fact that Ruffalo would likely once more playing Smart Hulk.
However, with fans now seeing Mark Ruffalo on the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans believe there may be some major status quo changes coming for the character. The video shows Ruffalo being taken off in a stretcher, likely leading to an ambulance. He also lacks any motion tracking implements, suggesting that he will be appearing as Bruce Banner himself in the film.

Mark Ruffalo’s Role In Spider-Man: Brand New Day
This set video from Spider-Man: Brand New Day isn’t the first time Marvel has teased Bruce Banner reverting back from Smart Hulk. Mark Ruffalo appeared as his normal self, with a broken arm no less, in Shang-Chi. This suggests that the separation of Hulk and Smart Hulk may have been happening for much longer than fans realize.
Of course, this storyline of Smart Hulk vs Savage Hulk likely won’t play a large role in the storyline of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. They’re likely using Mark Ruffalo to tease a bigger story to come while also giving fans a classic Spider-Man vs Hulk fight. However, the simple fact that they are changing course with the character is exciting enough to discuss.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31st, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future, and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
