Marvel fans are eagerly anticipating the release of Secret Invasion, the upcoming Disney Plus series that promises to take viewers on a thrilling ride through the Marvel Cinematic Universe while adapting one of the most iconic comic book storylines of all time. With Secret Invasion premiering in June, Marvel recently dropped a new synopsis for the series, giving fans a taste of what’s to come.
“In Marvel Studios’ new series Secret Invasion, set in the present day MCU, Nick Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls,” reads the synopsis. “Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.”
The six-part Secret Invasion series promises to be a fast-paced, action-packed adventure that is expected to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. As Marvel’s first major crossover event since Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Secret Invasion is expected to bring together some of the most iconic characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and introduce new ones to the franchise.
Developed by Kyle Bradstreet, Secret Invasion stars Marvel veteran Samuel L. Jackson, who reprises his role as Nick Fury, with Ben Mendelsohn joining him as the shape-shifting alien Talos. The series is expected to feature a high-stakes storyline that sees the two working together to unravel a complex conspiracy that threatens the entire world.
How Marvel is adapting Secret Invasion
Secret Invasion is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu . The story revolves around a group of Skrulls, an alien race that has the ability to shape-shift and take on the appearance of anyone they want. The Skrulls have infiltrated Earth’s society and are secretly replacing key figures with their own kind in order to take over the planet.
The Secret Invasion comic book event was a huge success and is widely regarded as one of the best Marvel storylines of all time. The Disney Plus series is being led by Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, focusing on the aftermath of the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home and other Marvel projects.
The full Secret Invasion cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo and Charlayne Woodard are also on board in undisclosed roles.
