A new fan theory proposes the Marvel Cinematic Universe will feature a story based on the iconic World War Hulk storyline for Mark Ruffalo in the next Avengers film.
In the comics, Hulk was banished into outer space by the Illuminati, leading to his exile before returning to Earth in order to seek revenge on the enlightened secret society. Although a follow up to Avengers: Endgame is not yet official, a sequel to the film is inevitable. Endgame managed a total of $2.79 billion to become the highest-grossing film of all time at the worldwide box office after it hit theaters in April of 2019.
Upcoming Marvel Studios projects include the Black Widow standalone film starring Scarlett Johansson, which Cate Shortland has directed and is set to hit theaters this fall, as well as The Eternals from director Chloe Zhao, and Shang-Chi which is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Production on the project is currently on hold due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In addition, Marvel also has plans for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and a Black Panther sequel, which both James Gunn and Ryan Coogler are returning to direct respectively.
