Does Spider-Man: Brand New Day connect to Daredevil: Born Again? A Marvel executive teases how the movie connects to season 2 of the series.

With the Punisher officially set to make his return to the big screen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, fans have been speculating that Marvel is weaving the start of a big web connecting their street level heroes, potentially leading to a crossover where they all take down Kingpin for good. This has led many to expect (or at least, hope) for the film to have some sort of connection to season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again.

And it seems, unlike most hopes of the MCU fandom, this one may actually come to light. Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about how projects like Daredevil: Born Again connect to tentpole films like Spider-Man: Brand New Day. There, he remarked that they’re always communicating with the team behind the film, teasing that the impacts of season 2 on the upcoming movie.

“We are communicating a lot with the team on Spider-Man: Brand New Day to make sure that there’s coherence there. We don’t want to spoil anything, but it very much exists in the same world and it is important.”

“We’re in a shared universe together, but I would say just the Daredevil comic books, the Punisher comic books depicted a certain tone and an idea of New York in a different way than Spider-Man’s, but they both exist in the same universe. It’s similar. Everything lines up and the impacts are felt, but we’re able to tell different stories.”

How Daredevil: Born Again Connects To Spider-Man: Brand New Day

That quote led many fans to hope that Marvel is once more building a grand story that starts in Daredevil: Born Again and continues with Spider-Man: Brand New Day. However, the connections may be a bit more subtle than many may wish. In a separate interview with ComicBook.com, Brad Winderbaum admits that season 2 of the series will have impacts on the film, but those wouldn’t be explicitly felt in the narrative.

“I think everything will go in order. Daredevil Season 2 comes out before Spider-Man, and like I said, there’s a coherence there. They’re part of the world, but I wouldn’t put too much faith in big, strong narrative connections.”

While this may quash some fans’ hopes to see something akin to a comic book event play out across the small and silver screens, it’s important to note that one of the big critique’s of Marvel’s direction for Spider-Man in recent years is that he’s been too reliant on other heroes in his stories. So it may ultimately be for the best that Spider-Man: Brand New Day doesn’t have any direct narrative connections to Daredevil: Born Again season 2.
