Iron Man is one of the most impactful movies of all time, kicking off the Marvel Cinematic Universe and kickstarting a new age of franchise films. However, according to a producer on the feature, there are some deleted scenes that Marvel will never let see the light of day.
It’s hard to imagine that a movie as analyzed and celebrated as the first Iron Man could have any part of it not see the light of day. However, between all the deleted scenes and concept art fans have seen, apparently there are a few scenes that have still not come to light. According to Jeremy Latcham, who served as one of the film’s associate producers, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige refuses to release a handful of scenes due to their low quality:
“There are still three or four deleted scenes from [Iron Man] that I don’t think will ever be released because they were so bad,” Latcham told Screenrant. “I remember Kevin saying to me in 2012, when I was like, ‘Should we put the Abu doing laundry deleted scenes out?’ And Kevin was like, ‘No. We can never put out Abu doing laundry. People will know we don’t know what we’re doing. It’ll be embarrassing if they see these scenes.’ But there was a whole runner in Iron Man where Tony Stark was doing laundry and I don’t think they’ve ever come out.”
It seems as though these deleted scenes truly are dirty laundry! Jeremy Latcham went on to describe a bit more about the scene where Robert Downey Jr. does the laundry of his captors, which seemingly featured him collecting parts for his Iron Man suit:
“Someone should look into it, but I don’t think they’ve ever been seen,” he continued. “Tony is doing laundry for the captors, but he’s really breaking the washing machine and stealing parts from it to build the Mark 1 suit. It’s so absurd. It’s wild.”
With Robert Downey Jr. officially retiring from the role of Tony Stark after Avengers: Endgame, whatever footage is in those scenes may be the last remaining footage fans will ever see of the actor as Iron Man. However, if Kevin Feige is to be trusted about the quality of these scenes, it may be best they’re left behind in a cave like a box of scraps as Riri Williams takes up the mantle of Iron Heart.
Who else is attached to the Ironheart series?
Ironheart follows Riri Williams, a brilliant MIT student who creates the most advanced suit of armor since the one worn by Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man. Thorne made her first appearance as Ironheart in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is currently playing in theaters.
Chinaka Hodge is the head writer of the Ironheart series while Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes serve as directors. Hodge is also executive producing the project alongside Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Zoie Nagelhout and Kevin Feige.
The cast of Ironheart also includes Jim Rash, Lyric Ross, Harper Anthony, Manny Montana, Alden Ehrenreich, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Regan Aliyah, Shakira Barrera, Sonia Denis, Paul Calderón and Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola.
