The release date for Black Panther 3 has seemingly been revealed! A new rumor suggests that the project may be taking a bit longer than fans would like.
Black Panther 3 is one of the most highly anticipated movies on Marvel’s slate. The first two movies are considered all-time classics of the superhero genre, and director Ryan Coogler just made a historic blockbuster hit with Sinners. Yet despite how much excitement there is for the project, the rumor has been uncharacteristically quite when it comes to details about the film.
Sadly, this may be because the film is further away than fans think. A rumor from veteran film reporter and The Hot Mic co-host Jeff Sneider suggests that Black Panther 3 isn’t slated to hit theaters until February 2028, with production on the project not starting in earnest until early 2027. This lines up with a recent addition to the MCU’s slate by Marvel Studios, which put an untitled project as releasing February 18, 2028.
Why Is Black Panther 3 Taking So Long?
If this rumor is true, this seems like an uncharacteristically long gap between a film and its sequel. Even assuming that Ryan Coogler hadn’t put ANY thought into Black Panther 3 prior to the release of Sinners, that’s still nearly 2 years of just working on the script and pre-production. This not to mention the fact that the current timeline likely leaves the project with half a year or less of post-production time.
Of course, it’s likely that Black Panther 3 is being pushed off until after the release of Avengers: Doomsday. But even then, it seems odd that Marvel wouldn’t want to start filming sooner rather than later. Perhaps Ryan Coogler truly wants to take his time with the script in order for it to be a worthy follow-up to Sinners. However, if this rumor comes to light, it may be hard to justify the wait even if the script is written in golden ink.
