The MCU has some new required reading! A rumor reveals which Marvel Comics will be used as the basis for Avengers: Doomsday‘s main storyline.
The MCU has a pattern. Either a project will be literally and visibly based off one specific run of a comic (see: Hawkeye, Infinity War) or be completely disconnected from any of its comic book roots (see: Shang-Chi, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3). Avengers: Doomsday is the one interesting case where Marvel seems to be basing it off a few comics, but none in particular.
However, that analysis may be incomplete. In a now deleted post (via ComicBookMovie.com), Cryptic4kQual posted a rumor that seems to confirm which comics Avengers: Doomsday will be taking inspiration from. And, perhaps unsurprisingly, it seems the film will be bringing the Secret Wars comics into the MCU.

The Comic Inspirations Of Avengers: Doomsday
This rumor shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone keeping up with Avengers: Doomsday. It’s all but confirmed that incursions will be playing a key role in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga finale, which was a clear signal that Hickman’s Secret Wars run would be adapted. Still, it seems as though the comic will be undergoing some major changes on its way to the silver screen.
“There are elements that have been changed so the story makes sense,” The scooper wrote in a recent post. “Loki for instance will essentially replace the Beyonders. There’s going to be some sort of Black Swan alternative in there too. IMO, A lot of the story resonates more with New Avengers & SW than Time Runs Out.”
Given how expansive Marvel’s 2015 Secret Wars story was, it makes sense that they’d want to condense the storyline when bringing it into the MCU. While it’s a shame that the Beyonders will seemingly be left out of Avengers: Doomsday, it certainly seems as though the studio is doing the best they can to tie up loose ends.
