Are the Celestials the next big bad of the MCU? A new Avengers rumor reveals which villains are being considered as key threats heading into the Mutant Saga.
The MCU is known for having quite a few dangling threads. Many of these people hope to be mopped up in the next two Avengers films to provide a clean slate heading into the Mutant Saga. However, one aspect of the franchise that has been basically ignored in the rumor mill are the beings known as Celestials.
Even though they played a key role in many important films across the MCU, their future has been left murky since the failure of Eternals. Given the next two Avengers movies will focus on Doctor Doom, and the Mutant Saga likely focusing on the titular X-Men, fans have been left scratching their heads about what Marvel plans to do with them.
Celestials’ Role In The Mutant Saga
Surprisingly, it seems as though the Celestials may play a vital role in a future Avengers project. A recent rumor round-up at the Cosmic Circus revealed quite a few villains that Marvel is considering using heading into the MCU’s Mutant Saga. And those fickle space gods seem to be a top priority.
“Celestials are a big antagonist. Mephisto as well, but he’s being saved up for Midnight Sons. I also heard about the Masters of Evil being done at one point, with both Zemo and The Leader as members.”
Celestials, Mephisto, and the Masters of Evil are certainly interesting characters to tee up as Avengers villains in the Mutant Saga. None of those have anything to do with the X-Men, suggesting that Marvel may leave the MCU as fairly segmented heading into the future. Though given how often plans change, only time will tell what role any of these characters will play.
