While the team behind the Black Panther films seem hesitant to recast the character, the rumor mill has long suggested that the studio is looking to do a “soft recast” via the multiverse.
Through that, the rumor mill has also provided a number of actors that Marvel Studios is supposedly eyeing to take on the role of Black Panther. Perhaps the most well-known of these is Damson Idris, who has been dancing around the question in the public eye so long that many consider his casting as a surety. However, other stars such as Aaron Pierre and John David Washington have reportedly been considered as candidates to take on the mantle in the MCU.

And now it seems that the process for casting a new Black Panther is finally underway. A rumor from DanielRPK reveals that Marvel Studios is reportedly starting to meet with actors to potentially take on the role in the MCU. Among those, Aaron Pierre was the only one named as having taken the meeting, though it’s possible other top candidates were simply not named.
The rumor also suggests that whoever does take on the mantle of Black Panther, be it Aaron Pierre, Damson Idris, or someone else, the new star is set to make their MCU debut in Avengers: Secret Wars. This tracks with prior reports about Marvel Studios’ plans for the character, likely waiting for Ryan Coogler to finish his trilogy before officially recasting the part.
