A new online rumor suggests that Richard Madden’s Ikaris, last seen committing seppuku by flying into the sun in Marvel Studios Eternals, might actually be making a comeback.
In Eternals, it is revealed that Ikaris betrayed his fellow celestials to protect the birth of a new Celestial out of Earth. Ikaris is eventually defeated and later flies into the sun as a result.
Talk the following with a grain a salt since, but according to MyTimeToShineHello, Ikaris may not have met his ultimate demise at the end of the 2021 film, “and will be back sooner than you think.”
The problem with that rumor is that Eternals screenwriter Kaz Firpo previously said in an interview a while back that Ikaris is dead.
“It began as an exile that I think, throughout the course of the filmmaking, really became something that needed to be definitive. It really is a moment of saying, ‘It’s sacrifice.’ It’s sort of saying, ‘I can’t serve the Eternals. If I can’t serve the Celestials, and I can’t be with my family, then I choose this third option,’ which — for him — really is oblivion. So yeah, he dead.”
Anything is possible and comic book characters always die and come back to life. If Superman, who apparently Ikaris was loosely based on, can comeback from the dead, then anything is possible.
Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena. Patton Oswalt and Harry Styles also appear in the film as Pip the Troll and Eros respectively.
Eternals is currently streaming on Disney Plus.
