Marvel’s ‘What If…?’ Unveils Original Native American Hero

The multiverse is expanding!

Kahhori Marvel What If...?

A multiverse of possibilities opened up with Marvel’s What If…?, an anthology series based on the comic series of the same name which reimagines some of Marvel’s biggest events. These possibilities are set to continue expanding in the show’s second season, which just unveiled its first look at the new character Kahhori, a hero from the Mohawk Nation.

What If…? was no stranger to introducing new heroes in its first season. Two of the breakout characters of the show in Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter and Strange Supreme didn’t exist in the comics. However, Kahhori is set to be the first character made from scratch by the What If…? team with no character to serve as a basis in either the comics or the films. Her episode, which is set to focus on what would happen if the Tesseract landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before America was colonized, is described as such on the official Marvel website:

“The Tesseract takes on a new life and a new mythology, transforming a lake into a gateway to the stars and leading Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman, on a quest to discover her power.”

The character was created in close collaboration with the Mohawk people. Ryan Little, who will serve as the writer for the episode, said that the What If…? team worked closely with historians like Doug George and language experts like Cecilia King, who are experts of the Mohawk Nation to ensure cultural authenticity. No actress has been announced for Kahhori, at least for the time being.

A Multiverse of Possibilities

What If…? also features the voices of Josh Brolin, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Jeffrey Wright, Hayley Atwell and other major stars from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series “flips the script on the MCU, reimagining famous events from the films in unexpected ways,” according to Marvel’s official description of the series.

In addition to the second season of What If…?, Marvel is also working on two more animated series — Marvel Zombies and Spider-Man: Freshman Year. The former is a direct spin-off of What If…? episode five, which revolves around a Marvel Cinematic Universe that suffers from a zombie plague.

All episodes of the first season of What If…? are now available to stream on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
