Deadline reports Matt Reeves will direct a new trilogy of Batman films with Robert Pattinson playing the Caped Crusader.
Fans have known that Matt Reeves will write and direct The Batman since early 2017, but there has been little to no word on whether or not the filmmaker is planning to helm further cinematic adventures with the Caped Crusader until now. In a new report confirming Warner Bros. approved Robert Pattinson for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, it was also revealed that the Dark Knight’s next movie would be the first in a new trilogy with Matt Reeves at the helm for each chapter.
Production on Matt Reeves’ The Batman will reportedly begin in early 2020. In the meantime, Robert Pattinson will work out a deal that includes an option for two more Batman films after the first chapter of Matt Reeves’ trilogy.
Plot details for The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and featured a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that reportedly includes Catwoman. Matt Reeves also confirmed that it will not be directly based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC Films.
The Batman is one of the many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. These projects include The Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, Cyborg, Supergirl, New Gods, and Nightwing.

The Batman will be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
