Matt Reeves is bringing the Caped Crusader to a brand new frontier! The director teases major mysteries in store for The Batman sequel as pre-production begins.
It feels almost odd to say that production on The Batman sequel is just around the corner. The film has been the White Whale of the comic book movie community for what is going on three years. Yet after a very long and arduous wait for the script, Matt Reeves and his team are finally gearing up for pre-production before shooting next spring.
And it seems as though the crew behind the sequel know the monumental weight that is sitting on their shoulders to deliver with this film. During a recent appearance at the Emmy’s (where The Penguin won nine major awards), Matt Reeves remarked that the next installment in The Batman franchise will be taking the character to places that fans have never seen on the silver screen before.
“[I was nervous giving the script to Robert Pattinson] because of the years [waiting] for sure. But also he’s Batman,” Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter. “So if he doesn’t like it, not good.”
“So, I was super excited because I thought that he really would [like it] because the things that it does for his character, for Batman, and for [Bruce Wayne] has never been done before in this way. And I had a feeling he would respond in this way, the fact that he did was incredibly encouraging.”
The Mystery Of The Batman Sequel
Yet as exciting as this period of time is, fans shouldn’t have their expectations high of finding out much more information about The Batman sequel than they already know. Matt Reeves also told the outlet that they’re taking the secrets of the film very seriously in order to try to preserve the mystery of the film, which he views as an integral element of the experience.
“Obviously because of what the first movie was and what this movie is, which is so much a detective story, the idea of trying to protect the secrets of the movie is super important because it’s a mystery. I mean it’s all part of it.”
“That would be an extra level of heartbreak if that part of it started getting out. You wanna keep the surprise so the fans of this genre and of these movies can have the fun experience that I always love going to the movies, which was to go and be surprised.”
DC Studios has done a surprisingly good job of keeping leaks away from their major productions. While it’s likely some of the larger elements of the sequel will find its way onto the net, especially as Matt Reeves and his crew start casting major characters, signs are good that The Batman will deliver one heck of a follow-up.
The Batman sequel is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, and make sure to stay tuned to our YouTube channel for more content.
