The Batman helmer Matt Reeves expressed his love for The Dark Knight in a recent interview.

Though we received our first look at Robert Pattinson’s The Dark Knight at the DC FanDome trailer, it’s hard to believe that The Batman is finally on track to hit cinemas. The DC reboot was caught in the crossfire of COVID-19, which resulted in filming being postponed, which led to the film being pushed back. Since the first trailer, we’ve gotten countless looks at the film which have teased a gritty and grounded take on Gotham’s most iconic hero. Though plot details on the film are relatively slim, we know that The Batman will focus on a Dark Knight that is still in the early days of his career.

With filming wrapped up and the project set to hit cinemas next month, Matt Reeves and co. have been doing the promotional rounds to discuss the upcoming DC reboot. In a recent interview with Total Film, Reeves discussed his love for the iconic character and how he has always been a huge fan of The Dark Knight’s cinematic adaptations.

“I loved [Batman] since I was a kid, and I was introduced to the character through the Adam West TV series. The show came out the same year I was born. Every time that the movies came out, I was a huge fan. I just never thought that the opportunity would come my way.”

Here is the synopsis for The Batman:

Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
