The new Batman hasn’t been cast just yet, but Robert Pattinson is said to be the frontrunner for the role ahead of X-Men star Nicholas Hoult. With the project reportedly shooting later this year, Batman fans can expect Warner Bros. to formally announce its next Caped Crusader soon.
Former Bruce Wayne Ben Affleck was originally set to write and direct The Batman. He eventually stepped down and handed the duties to Matt Reeves, who’s been attached to the movie since February 2017. Nearly a year later, Ben Affleck revealed that he had decided to hang up the cape and cowl, allowing Reeves to look for a younger Batman.
Plot details for the DC Films project are currently under wraps. It’s said to revolve around a young Bruce Wayne and Matt Reeves has previously confirmed that it will not be directly based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of many projects currently being developed by Warner Bros. and DC. The list also includes a Flash standalone film, Green Lantern Corps, Black Adam, The Suicide Squad, Nightwing, Supergirl, Plastic Man and New Gods.
The Batman is set to open in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned for more updates.
