The Batman‘s Matt Reeves has been given a multi-year film deal with Warner Bros. Discovery, giving Warner Bros. Pictures Group first-look rights to all of Reeve’s writing, directing and producing work.

Matt Reeves started working with Warner Bros. when he directed the Robert Pattinson-led The Batman, which was released earlier this year. The director is currently working on a sequel and a range of spin-off projects, though now looks set to undertake a range of projects under the Warner Bros. banner.

Warner Bros. Discovery has made Reeves the first filmmaker to land a overall first look deal at the company since Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy took over Warner Bros. Pictures Group.

Matt Reeves’ Warner Bros. Future

Warner Bros. Discovery has made the first look film deal with Matt Reeves and his production company, 6th & Idaho.

While Reeves and 6th & Idaho previously had a first look deal at Netflix, given how much time the director has been dedicating to his The Batman franchise, it made sense for him to make Warner Bros. his new home. As well as signing the deal with Warner Bros. Picture Group, Reeves has re-upped with Warner Bros. Television Group.

In a statement, Matt Reeves said of his new deal with Warner Bros.:

“Making this legendary studio my home is a dream. I am so excited to be working with Mike [De Luca], Pam [Abdy], and Channing [Dungey, Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman] and our teams to bring captivating stories I am truly passionate about to the big and small screen.”

“Keeping Matt and creating a home for him to do more projects in the Batman universe but also originals, was very important to us,” said Michael De Luca of Warner Bros.’ new deal with Matt Reeeves. “We want to create an atmosphere where all of these filmmakers can excel and do their work and stay with us once they are inside the Warners family,” he noted.

Here is the synopsis for Matt Reeves’ The Batman:

“Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.”

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin and Barry Keoghan as The Joker.

The Batman is streaming exclusively on HBO Max and is available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding The Batman, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
