‘Fantastic Four’ Director Matt Shakman Exits ‘Star Trek 4’

The USS Enterprise is gonna need another new captain.

Star Trek

Newly appointed Fantastic Four director Matt Shakman will no longer helm the next Star Trek film for Paramount.

While several Star Trek shows are currently ongoing, Paramount has been struggling to get a new film off the ground since the release of Beyond in 2016. Star Trek 4 has been a revolving door of directors with S.J. Clarkson and Noah Hawley previously attached. Quentin Tarantino was also developing a separate Star Trek movie of his own. Last summer, it was revealed that WandaVision showrunner Matt Shakman would become the latest filmmaker to direct the sequel with the Kelvin cast returning.

Star Trek 4 Faces Another Setback

Earlier today, it was reported that Matt Shakman was in talks to helm Fantastic Four for Marvel Studios. The upcoming Star Trek film was holding a December 2023 release date, but the film will most likely face another delay since Shakman will no longer direct the project per The Hollywood Reporter. Paramount said the following in a statement:

“Matt Shakman is an incredibly talented filmmaker, and we regret the timing didn’t align for him to direct our upcoming Star Trek film. We are grateful for his many contributions, are excited about the creative vision of this next chapter and look forward to bringing it to audiences all around world.”

Here is the synopsis for Star Trek Beyond:
