Morbius star Matt Smith shared his thoughts on the film’s negative critical reception and becoming a box office bomb.
If you’ve been on the internet since April 1st of this year, you probably noticed a few memes related to Morbius. Sadly, those memes are not in celebration of the film, but rather mocking it due to its abysmal critical reception and bombing at the box office. The film, which starred Jared Leto and Matt Smith was the third entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe of films.
Matt Smith, who is currently promoting his upcoming HBO original series House of the Dragon, reflected on the the negative performance of Jared Leto’s Morbius, but is keen to move on from it and not let it bring him down all that much:
“Yeah, it was thrown under the bus. But you just have to roll with it. What else are you gonna do? It’s a film, at the end of the day, we’re not saving lives. For whatever reason, it didn’t quite work out and… It is what it is.”
Matt Smith has dealt with blockbuster disappointment before.
Before joining Jared Leto in Morbius, Matt Smith also experienced a blockbuster disappointment with Terminator: Genisys. The film, which was set to relaunch the franchise with a new trilogy, was a critical and commercial disappointment. Thankfully, Smith has taken part in another big franchise that will hopefully fare him better in the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon.
Here is the synopsis for Jared Leto’s Morbius:

What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, Morbius stars Jared Leto, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach produced the project with Lucas Foster, with Palak Patel overseeing it for Sony.
