Is Daredevil: Born Again better than ever? Matthew Lillard speaks on his upcoming MCU role and working with Vincent D’Onofrio once more.
There’s a lot of reasons to be excited about season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. However, one of the most mind blowing elements that has been largely ignored by the fandom is that Matthew Lillard will be making his MCU debut in the project. While his role is currently undisclosed, many speculate that he’ll serve as the new antagonist for Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.
ComicBookMovie.com recently got the chance to catch up with Matthew Lillard to talk about his role in the Five Nights At Freddy’s 2 movie. The interview briefly touched upon his involvement in Daredevil: Born Again season 2. While the actor obviously couldn’t say much, he did tease that the project is bigger and better than ever before.
“It’s good, I haven’t really been asked that question yet. Obviously, working with Marvel, everything is under lock and key. I can tell you that being on that set, working with those men and women, the crew is fantastic. It’s probably one of the best I’ve worked with in my life.”

Yet it seems the crew isn’t the only thing making season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again as exciting as it is. Much of the glory lays at the feet of Vincent D’Onofrio. Continuing on about his involvement in the series, Matthew Lillard praises his old co-star, as well as seemingly confirms that he’ll be playing a big role in Kingpin’s storyline next season.
“[Vincent] D’Onofrio and I get to work together. We did a movie 100 years ago when we were both babies. Getting the chance to work with him again was just fantastic. He has such weight. Not literal weight, he’s skinny right now, but when you look him in the eyes, he carries so much power with them.”
“It leads to good work. Good writing leads to good work. I thought that last season was really electric, and I think next season is gonna top it. I’m thrilled for the fans, and I’m excited for people to see the work.”
Of course, with Daredevil: Born Again season 2 releasing next spring, it’s likely that fans will find out what Matthew Lillard’s role in the show will be sooner rather than later. And if the actor’s praise is to be believed, there are some electrifying scenes in store between him and Vincent D’Onofrio. Fans just have to hope he doesn’t end up like most of the other characters associated with Kingpin!
