Legendary actor Max Von Sydow passed away on Sunday March 8, according to the Game of Thrones star’s family. Most recently, Max Von Sydow was best known for appearing as the Three Eyed Raven in Game of Thrones, mentoring Bran Stark. His performance earned him an Emmy nomination, as he performed with such depth and surprising emotion in the three Game of Thrones episodes that he appeared in. Max Von Sydow also opened the new Star Wars trilogy at the beginning of The Force Awakens.
Max Von Sydow’s lengthy career saw him star in a number of critically praised films spanning across several genres. He starred in The Seventh Seal directed by Ingmar Bergman, which saw him play a medieval knight that took on Death in a game of chess. Horror fans will best know Max Von Sydow for his role in The Exorcist, in which he played Father Merrin. The star will be missed by fans from across the world, even for his role as Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon.
