Melissa Benoist Isn’t On Board For A The Flash & Supergirl Romance

Supergirl

The Flash star Grant Gustin would ship his character The Flash/Barry Allen and Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl but Benoist isn’t on the same page.

When Benoist was asked about the possible relationship during the red carpet for the CW upfronts. She explained that their romance wouldn’t be the best idea.

“I don’t know that they’d ever get together; I think they’re too similar. I think they’d like pig out on.. I think they’re pals, pigging out on ice cream.”

The move of Supergirl from CBS to The CW has made it possible for these characters to crossover on the small screen, which is currently home to The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. This seems like a natural fit and fans agree online, supporting the move and the potential for crossovers amongst the shows. Now CW president Mark Pedowiz is echoing the same sentiments.

“We are sitting down with Greg Berlanti and his team next week or so. We have a rough idea where they’re heading and, because our working relationship with Greg, we’re confident they understand what our needs are. As for the tone or tonality of the series, they did have a pretty successful series. The fact it’s now moved to The CW, where it should have been in the first place, I don’t think it will have a big impact on the tone.”

The show will be moving to Vancouver, Canada as previously reported when discussions had just first started. While not part of the official announcement, it is safe to say that they will somehow be merging Supergirl into The Flash/Arrow/Legends of TomorrowUniverse through something like a Flashpoint or Crisis event. There had been concerns that due to some budget cuts that will be coming that some cast members would be trimmed off the main group, but it appears that everyone is coming back for the second season.

Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, David Harewood as J’onn J’onzz/Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott.

  • Too bad she doesn’t see a romance with Barry Allen in the future, because she has far more chemistry with Grant Gustin than she does with the block of wood playing James Olsen.

    • rednumber22

Nah. Kara has James and Barry has Iris. End of. This isn’t Arrow.

      • That’s not the point I’m making. The point is: Kreisberg and Co. want to force Kara & James down our throats, much like Ollie & Laurel in Arrow S1, no matter how little chemistry they have together.

And let me make it plain: there is far less believable chemistry between Benoist and Brooks than there was between Amell and Cassidy. In fact, it’s a chemistry black hole. Negative chemistry. Whatever you want to call it, it’s terrible.

Completely agree with the lack of chemistry between Kara and James. It’s because of the poor choice of actor they picked for James. I don’t even think that actor KNOWS that he’s playing the iconic Jimmy Olsen. I even forget sometimes that he’s supposed to be Olsen. He puts no effort into his character whatsoever. I don’t think the CW would have ever casted him if it was their choice. Melissa Benoist on the other hand is a phenomenal actress. She would have chemistry with anyone. (I do not want a Supergirl Flash romance though….i like them better as good buddies).

  • Platynum

Glad that he has stated that. She came from a network where storylines are more important than “ships”.She has her budding relationship with James and Barry has Iris which is canon and should stay that way. This aint Arrow and if they want to retain their viewership they will keep it the way theyve started it.

Bah. Denial. That’s what you do to avoid spoiling a possible plot point.

    • Joseph

I guess you didn’t watch the Flash Supergirl crossover earlier this year. There was absolutely no romantic chemistry between them. It felt like a brother sister relationship, or a relationship between a girl and her gay best friend. That’s the way it should remain. I also can’t see them creating a relationship between two characters on two different shows that only crossover once a year.

      • xxjinzaxx

You guessed wrong buddy. Nothing wrong in trying, though. You had a 50/50 chance 😉
